Cairn Plc. has an opportunity for an Assistant Town Planner/Surveyor to join their existing in-house planning team. Reporting to the Director of Planning, this role requires a motivated team player who will be part of the forward planning function within the team. The role involves the identification and assessment of development opportunities for the business.
This post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to be a key part of an established planning team and to assist in the forward planning, analytical, development control and construction side of the business. The successful candidate will help manage an existing portfolio of sites throughout Ireland and assist in identifying future development opportunities based on factual information including development plans, CSO statistics, geographical information, new employment centers etc.
Key responsibilities:
- Typically the candidate will be expected to undertake and assist with the following duties:
- Assist in the identification and assessment of development opportunities for the business from a planning perspective.
- Work closely with the Forward Planning Manager, Business Development Team and other functions of the company to progress appropriate partnership and acquisition opportunities to inform the pipeline of the business.
- Operate a system that systematically tracks and records all opportunities so that key information is available in a transparent and efficient manner.
- Assist in the preparation and management of planning applications and appeals;
- Manage and co-ordinate multiple large design teams of varying disciplines to meet challenging deadlines;
- Prepare and manage site budgets and project spend on potential and existing sites.
- Liaise with other Cairn staff and departments to ensure the highest quality scheme is submitted yet be as efficient as possible to construct and exceeds the expectation of prospective purchasers;
- Organise, manage and participate in public consultation exercises associated with Cairn developments;
- Carry out focused research of particular geographical areas, employment sectors and/or infrastructure improvements;
- Be responsible for monitoring development plans throughout the Greater Dublin Area and preparing focused representations to maintain and improve the development potential of Cairn sites;
- Undertake site visits and carry out feasibility studies of potential sites; and
- Review local and national planning policy to inform and identify opportunities.
The candidate:
- The successful candidate will have:
- A recognised (IPI or RTPI) planning qualification/Chartered Surveyor or other relevant background;
- Minimum 3+ yrs Post-Graduate experience;
- A good understanding and experience in land management and maximising the development opportunities of sites.
- Ability to identify land, planning and technical risk.
- Project management experience;
- A reasonable understanding of the construction process post planning decision;
- The ability to demonstrate good analytical and IT skills;
- Report writing and presentation skills and the ability to communicate clearly and consisely with others;
- Experience in a broad range of projects with particular emphasis on residential development;
- The ability to work independently using their own initiative in an organised manner but also be a strong team player;
- Strong attention to detail; and
- A clean driving licence and have access to a car.
