Cairn Homes plc is offering an exceptional opportunity for a highly skilled Head of Commercial Finance to join our Finance function. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Treasury, you will lead a team of four dedicated and experienced accountants. The ideal candidate will have the following key responsibilities and requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Head of Finance & Treasury on a day-to-day basis.
  • Lead for all forward-looking financial and operational analytics for the CEO, CFO, Leadership
  • Team and the Board of Directors, including short, medium and long range financial planning,
  • budgeting and reforecasting. In doing so, having a full understanding over time of the
  • operations of the business, the key interdependencies between business functions and their
  • impact on our overall financial performance.
  • Delivery of the annual budget and three year plan and mid-year reforecast by driving
  • deliverables from all business functions.
  • Oversee and drive business partnering with key business functions including commercial,
  • construction and sales. Establishing and maintaining strong and productive working
  • relationships with the Leadership Team members will be critical to success in the role.
  • Lead the development of predictive analytics and performance dashboards to support
  • Leadership team decision making, as well as areas of importance to the business, including
  • but not limited to work-in-progress and operating expenditure spend, workforce planning
  • and liquidity management.
  • Review the financial evaluation of all strategic initiatives including land and business
  • acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, debt structure, deal structuring and and other
  • commercial initiatives, from both a returns and an accounting perspective. This will involve
  • collaboration with other senior leaders within the business.
  • Work closely with the Group Financial Controller across multiple workstreams, including
  • annual budget and mid-year reforecast, managing Group liquidity, accounting treatment for
  • transactions and any other areas where Commercial Finance and Financial Reporting overlap, including regular analytical reporting (monthly pack), to enable integrated ways of working across the finance function.
  • Other ad hoc projects as they arise and impact the business from a financial or operational perspective.
  • Responsible for the continued optimisation of our financial modelling capabilities to ensure that Commercial Finance continues to deliver real-time, value add forecasting and optionality to the business.

The candidate – key requirements

  • Qualified accountant with a minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to overlay technical accounting knowledge commercially.
  • Construction or property experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels across functional departments.
  • Good interpersonal skills with experience of interacting with senior executive team members
  • in a Group HQ environment
  • A strong ability to multi-task and work under pressure to deadlines in a fast-paced
  • environment with conflicting priorities, where relationships, organisation, accuracy and a
  • high attention to detail is required.
  • Self-motivated team player within the Finance function with the ability to work on one’s
  • own initiative in managing the Commercial Finance function.
  • Hands-on approach to issue resolution and driven to deliver the required result
  • Excellent verbal and written presentational skills
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
