Cairn has a unique opportunity for a high calibre Engineer to join our team.
Key responsibilities
Typically the candidate will be expected to undertake and assist with the following duties:
- Plan, Implement and Manage the Temporary Works Strategy across Pre Construction & Live Projects portfolio. Including responsibilities as Designated Individual including appointment of Temporary works coordinators, supervisors and designers. Creation of design briefs and the maintenance of temporary works registers.
- Develop standard and non-standard critical Safety Engineering solutions for the successful completions of project at Design stage ensuring the correct allowances and solutions are / programmed into the Projects Execution Plan.
- Support Technical Department through design consultation and H&S department through construction implementation of Temporary and Permanent works.
- Lifting and Craneage Appointed Person experience beneficial and or experience in crane planning, supervision and coordination for High Density projects.
- Oversight and Key account management of Structural Engineering consultants.
- Ability to advise and review new projects that are proposed from the business development, Innovation & Sustainability teams.
- Ability to undertake Site Audits – to ensure projects are aligned to company standards ISO 9001 compliance throughout our Engineering Process.
- Assisting Quality Team with practical onsite Toolbox talks and Sub Contractor engagement.
- Support/ trial new Digital Engineering initiatives that are in the market and assist with successful role out.
- Mentor & Develop Engineering Staff throughout the business and engage with supply chain engineers to safeguard the Built For Good principles.
- Understanding of Engineering equipment and software needs, engagement with suppliers and ensure adequate frameworks are put in place Assessment of Value Engineering principals and development of standardised solutions. Undertake Project Design Risk Assessments
- Coordinate Engineering activities and transition from Design to construction operations with Technical and Construction departments.
- Business Unit Lead responsibility, accountable for delivering the overall Engineering vision and strategic direction of the project in line with Design principles and programme targets.
- Single point responsibility for Engineering project out-turn from preconstruction through procurement, construction and handover stages, ensuring execution of the project and the finish quality of the product (buildings and amenity spaces) achieves best-in-class standards, in line with our market leading brand position.
- Leadership and guidance on Engineers selection within the Cairn site management team responsible for construction delivery, design and commercial management of the project, and inspiring a high-performance culture within the team.
- Engagement with Planning/Development, in-house Design and Sales and Marketing teams to refine the project design in line with market and customer expectations, during the pre-construction stage from a specific engineering perspective.
- Providing key inputs and oversight of the project value-engineering and financial appraisal process from pre-construction stage through construction
- Contributing into the project execution plan including phasing strategy, contracting strategy, programme and risk mitigation plan, along with sign-off of the construction budget and baseline programme.
- Oversight of the performance of our supply chain subcontractors/suppliers and consultants (including ownership of key relationships), ensuring selection of the best partners to deliver optimal performance and value contribution to the project.
- Set standards of behaviour and responsibility for project teams and hold teams to account. (Engineering Department)
- Ensuring works are carried out to the required quality (BCAR), health & safety and environmental standards, and in full compliance with the Planning Permission.
- Championing the internal systems adoption and effectiveness onsite.
- Instil a strong safety culture and develop the capability of our project teams to take personal responsibility through strong visible leadership.
- Ensuring the necessary resources and processes are in place to ensure best practice in project controls, performance management, and project reporting.
- Implementation of Cairn best practice in project controls, performance management, and Project Reporting
- Promoting positive engagement and culture with project and project team
- Embedding proactive behavioural approach towards safety and quality management
- Embracing innovation & technology
- Responsible for accurate, transparent reporting and forecasting.
Education:
- Educated to degree level (preferably Masters) in a relevant engineering discipline (Preferably Structural) or equivalent NVQ Level 8 qualification.
- Fellow or Chartered Member of an industry related Professional Body
- Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering, leadership, delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems
- Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
- Proven project management and supplier experience
- Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level
- Knowledge and technical understanding of automotive processes, components and design techniques
- Ability to undertake structural calculation & design checks
- Some Engineering Consultancy or design led experience
