Cairn has a unique opportunity for a high calibre Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a range of commercial activity in the newly formed Group Procurement Function.  This is a key role in this new team at Cairn, the desired candidate should be a team player who is process driven, curious and has a continuous improvement and a strategic mindset. As this is a new function, there is an opportunity for the right candidate to help shape the direction of team strategy.

Key responsibilities:

Typically the candidate will be expected to undertake and assist with the following duties:

  • Identify and champion improvements to current procurement processes while contributing to the wider Procurement team strategy.
  • Support the role out and continued development of our digital procurement strategy.  This is key to enabling our new team scale to meet the increasing demands of this high growth organisation.
  • Complete Category Plans for Key Sub-Contract Packages to identify and manage risks and opportunities within the supply chain.
  • Cultivate and mange relationships with existing and new strategic supply chain partners to drive innovation and value for the business. 
  • Drive the standardisation of procurement documentation across the portfolio of Cairn projects.  This should include leading the design and implementation of improved Bills of Quantities structures that will have a particular focus on ease of use by end user for tender analysis purposes, while being conscious that the document must be user friendly for pricing by our supply chain partners.   
  • Review of Sub-contract Packages to ensure scope of works captured is consistent with Cairn standard details and scopes.
  • Complete tender analysis and benchmarking of returned tenders for high value and strategic subcontractor and supplier packages, including senior level commercial negotiations.
  • Track and report on wider industry trends and oversee the management of the Cairn inflation tracker.
  • Be a champion of sustainable procurement practices within Cairn and across the Cairn supply chain.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify, prioritise and implement strategic procurement projects.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Technical and Cost Management teams to ensure timely completion of key procurement activities to contribute towards the successful of projects.
  • Have a strong innovation focus, including looking at new products and technologies and participating in the comparative analysis process.
  • Support data analysis and reporting objectives of the Procurement team

The candidate; 

  • 7-10+ yrs Post-Graduate experience in PQS or Contractors office.
  • House building/ residential experience desirable.
  • Experience/ technical knowledge of all modern methods of construction.
  • An ability to achieve demanding time and quality targets.
  • Good IT skills with competency at Cubit, Cost-ex or equivalent, and Microsoft office.
  • A willingness to attend training and to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills.
  • To have strong analytical skills and ability to present findings
  • To have good spoken and written communication skills
  • To be methodical, pay attention to detail and be accurate
  • Good interpersonal skills and work as part of a team
  • To be self-motivated with ability to work on own initiative
  • To be able to co-ordinate a number of different tasks at the same time.
  • To be willing to accept overall project responsibility.
